About DAI

DAI operates at the forefront of global development, transforming innovative ideas into impactful actions. Our mission addresses critical social and economic challenges stemming from inefficient markets, ineffective governance, and instability. DAI works with a variety of clients, including national and local governments, bilateral and multilateral donors, private corporations, and philanthropic organisations. Since our inception in 1970, we have worked in over 150 countries, delivering tangible results across various international development contexts-from stable societies and thriving economies to regions grappling with political or military conflict. In Malawi, DAI has been active since 1980 and currently manages four contracts with the European Union, USAID, and the Scottish Government

Objective of the Programme

DAI was awarded the SG-funded Climate Just Communities - Malawi (CJC Malawi) operating in Chikwawa, Karonga, Machinga, Neno, Phalombe, Salima and Zomba in selected Traditional Authorities (TA). We work with seven local delivery partners (LDPs) and 4 international partners to catalyse transformational change. Together, we integrate equality and inclusion across project design, delivery, reporting and communications. The following are the broad objectives of Climate Just Communities:

  • Empower communities to identify their own priorities to be addressed through climate justice support and build resilience to the local impacts of climate change.
  • Empower the most marginalised people within those communities (including but not limited to marginalisation for reasons related to gender, age, disability, or indigenous status) to take action in building resilience to the local impacts of climate change.
  • Empower communities to advocate for climate justice and local equity.
  • Create long-term, sustainable change within communities in line with the pillars of climate justice.
