Water For People is an international nonprofit organization working in 9 countries across the world with its Headquarters in Denver, Colorado USA Our goal is to bring water, sanitation, and hygiene services to everyone, and to make sure those solutions last forever. We are working toward this ambitious goal by partnering with local community members, businesses, and governments, helping them bring sustainable water and sanitation systems to their communities In Malawi we are currently working in 5 districts of Blantyre (Peri Urban), Chikwawa, Chiradzulu, Neno and Ntchisi. Water For People Malawi for the past eighteen years has been implementing water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects with financial support from Charity. Water in the rural districts of Chikwawa, Chiradzulu, Neno and Ntchisi. The aim of the WASH projects is to increase access to clean and safe water improved Sanitation, and Hygiene services in Malawi. Therefore, Water For People-Malawi would like to engage the services of a reputable audit firm to carry out a grant audit for the past four implemented Charity Water projects since 2022.

Audit Objective

The objective of the audit is to express an opinion on the Project Financial Statements (PFS) of the last four implemented Charity Water funded WASH projects in the target districts as one cumulative audit process and report with a separate financial statement per project.

Scope of Work

The audit will be conducted in accordance with International Standards on Auditing (ISA) as published by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). In conducting the project audit, special attention should be paid to the following:

  • The funds have been used in accordance with the conditions of the Grant Agreement, with due attention to economy and efficiency and only for the purpose for which the financing was provided.
  • Goods and services financed have been procured in accordance with the appropriate regulations, with adequate internal controls applied throughout the procurement process and beyond.
  • Necessary supporting documents, records, and accounts have been kept. Clear linkages should exist between the accounting records and the financial reports presented to the Donor.
  • The Project Financial Statements have been prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and practices and give a true and fair view of the financial position of the Project. In addition, auditors are expected to test the effectiveness of internal controls related to key financial and operational policies, while also ensuring compliance with all applicable statutory obligations required of the implementing partner.

Deliverables

The auditors issue an audit opinion (Audit report) on the Financial Statements on assigned Projects in which the auditor. 

  • Gives comments and observations on the accounting records, systems, and controls that were examined during the course of the audit
  • Identifies specific deficiencies and areas of weakness in systems and controls and makes recommendations for their improvement
  • Communicates matters that have come to their attention during the audit which might have a significant impact on the implementation of the project.

  • Proposals shall be valid for a period of ninety (90) days after submission and shall be delivered to Water For People Malawi offices, Shire River Building, 3rd Floor, Off Masauko Chipembere Highway, Behind MBC offices on or before 20th March 2026 at 14:00 hours.
